After weight loss, the body does not always shrink as smoothly as patients hope, and excess abdominal skin can remain despite great progress. Our patient is a 68-year-old White female who had previously been morbidly obese, reaching a maximum weight of 170 pounds. Through diet, exercise, and GLP-1 treatment, she reduced her weight to 120 pounds, yet she was still bothered by loose skin around her abdominal region. She sought out Dr. J. Timothy Katzen for a circumferential body lift to remove the excess skin and improve her body contour after weight loss. Under general anesthesia, Dr. Katzen performed this lower-body contouring procedure by removing stretched skin and soft tissue across the entire lower trunk. A circumferential body lift is more comprehensive than surgery focused on the front of the abdomen alone because it can improve the stomach, flanks, waistline, and lower back in one operation. After the extra tissue is removed, the remaining skin is carefully redraped to create a firmer, flatter, and more balanced shape. This kind of post-weight-loss surgery can reveal the results patients worked hard to achieve and improve how clothing fits. Her post-operative photos, taken 4 months after surgery, already show remarkable results, with a flatter abdomen, less loose skin, and a more defined silhouette. At only 4 months into healing, her contour is expected to continue to refine as swelling fades over time.

A circumferential body lift can dramatically improve the shape of the midsection after weight loss leaves behind loose, hanging skin. Our patient is a 68-year-old White female who had previously been morbidly obese and reached a maximum weight of 170 pounds. Through diet, exercise, and GLP-1 use, she brought her weight down to 120 pounds, but she was left unhappy with the excess skin around her abdominal region. To address this, she came to Dr. J. Timothy Katzen for a circumferential body lift, also known as a CBL, to remove the extra skin and improve her body contour. Under general anesthesia, Dr. Katzen performed this body lift procedure by removing excess skin and tissue around the midsection, treating the abdomen, waist, flanks, and lower back in a single continuous surgery. A circumferential body lift is especially useful after major weight loss because it can flatten the stomach, lift the outer thighs and buttocks, and create a smoother transition around the entire lower trunk. The remaining skin is carefully redraped and tightened to create a firmer, more youthful silhouette. Her photos were taken 4 months after surgery and already show remarkable body lift results with a flatter abdominal region, less hanging skin, and a more sculpted waistline. Because she is still relatively early in healing, her contour is expected to continue refining as swelling improves and the tissues settle further, with more definition likely ahead.
