Loose skin after major weight loss can prevent the body from showing the full result of an incredible transformation. Our patient is a 45-year-old Hispanic female who came to Dr. J. Timothy Katzen after losing a tremendous amount of weight through diet and exercise. At her highest, she weighed over 355 pounds, and by the time she was ready for surgery, she had reduced her weight to 173 pounds. Even though she had made amazing progress, she was left with significant excess skin in the abdominal region. That extra skin is common after massive weight loss because the skin has been stretched for so long that it often cannot retract fully on its own. To address this, Dr. Katzen performed a circumferential lower body lift under general anesthesia. This procedure, also called a 360 lower-body lift or belt lipectomy, removes loose skin and excess tissue around the entire lower trunk. It improves the abdomen, waist, hips, and lower back while also creating a lift to the outer thighs and buttocks. By removing the hanging skin and reshaping the torso, Dr. Katzen helped create a flatter stomach, a more defined waistline, and a smoother lower-body contour. For many post-weight-loss patients, this surgery helps their bodies finally reflect all of their hard work. These photos were taken 6 months after surgery and show our patient’s remarkable results from circumferential lower-body lift surgery and expert excess skin removal by Dr. Katzen.

Body contouring after massive weight loss is often the final step in completing a life-changing journey. Our patient, a 45-year-old Hispanic female, lost a tremendous amount of weight through diet and exercise before seeking care from Dr. J. Timothy Katzen. At her highest, she weighed over 355lbs, and when she came in for surgery, she had lowered her weight to 173lbs. Although she had achieved an impressive transformation, she was still bothered by the excess skin left behind in her abdominal region. After major weight loss, this type of loose skin can hang and fold, making it difficult for the body to keep pace with the patient’s progress. Under general anesthesia, Dr. Katzen performed a circumferential lower-body lift to remove excess tissue and reshape the lower body. This surgery treats much more than the front of the stomach. A circumferential lower-body lift addresses the abdomen, flanks, waist, hips, and lower back in one continuous procedure, which is why it is also called a 360-degree body lift. As the extra skin is removed, the lower body is tightened, and the outer thighs and buttocks are lifted for a smoother, firmer shape. This type of post-weight-loss surgery can improve comfort, contour, clothing fit, and confidence. These photos were taken 6 months after surgery and show our patient’s remarkable result, highlighting Dr. Katzen’s expertise in lower body lift surgery, post weight loss body contouring, and excess skin removal after major weight loss.
