What is silicone injections removal with a closed technique?

Silicone injections received by unlicensed medical professionals in a non-medical facility can cause significant harm and often cause health issues later. Even silicone that is administered appropriately by skilled providers can sometimes have associated risks. At J. Timothy Katzen, M.D. Beverly Hills, we are committed to providing our patients who require the removal of previously administered silicone injections. Dr. Katzen is the creator of a novel, minimally invasive technique combining three different technologies: ultra-sound, sound energy, and suction surgery. The closed silicone injections removal technique focuses on targeting the affected silicone and tissues using ultrasound without making long surgical incisions. VASER technology. If you are concerned about potential health issues from injected silicone in your buttocks, breasts, lips, face, or genitals, contact our Beverly Hills, CA, office TODAY. During your consultation with Dr. Katzen, you and Dr. Katzen will determine the best surgical technique to remove your injected silicone.

How does Closed Silicone Injections Removal Surgery work?

The surgical removal technique that will be used to perform your procedure depends on the location of the silicone injection, the amount of silicone in the area, and the type of complications that are being experienced due to the injections. During your consultation, Dr. Katzen will determine if you are an ideal candidate for the closed silicone removal surgery. A closed silicone removal surgery includes three unique instruments. When used separately, these three instruments are of limited value. However, when these instruments are combined, Dr. Katzen can harness all their energy to maximally extract silicone from the injected site. Dr. Katzen will utilize our Ultrasound-Guided VASER Assisted Silicone Suction (UVASS) technology to remove your silicone injections. During this procedure, ultrasound is used to locate the silicone in the operating room. Once located, tumescent fluid (a sterile solution of saline, lidocaine, and a vasoconstrictor—epinephrine) is injected into the area to reduce swelling, provide anesthesia, and optimize the surgical field for the next step — the VASER. The VASER is a surgical instrument that employs sound energy to melt the scar tissue around the injected silicone. After the ultra-sound localizes the silicone and the VASER breaks up the scar tissue surrounding the silicone, Dr. Katzen uses custom-made, proprietary suction cannulas to remove any remaining scar tissue and liquefied silicone.
