2 months post-op tummy tuck - he's very patient & caring - My experience with Dr. J Timothy Katzen has been nothing but great. I searched for Dr. Katzen on several reputable websites. I love that Dr. Katzen takes time to engage with his patients and explains things that make it easy for us patients to understand. When I met Dr. Katzen, I was very pleased. He possesses all the traits I was looking for in a surgeon. He's someone I can trust and offers high-quality care. The morning of surgery, I was a nervous wreck, he held my hand and calmed me. He's so patient and caring. Highly recommend Dr. Katzen and his practice.

I had a tummy tuck in July 2022 and my results are beyond expectations! Dr. Katzen is knowledgeable, kind, personable and a master at what he does! His office staff are equally amazing. They make you feel important, heard and well taken care of. My results are better than I could have ever imagined and hope that if you are on the fence about booking with the doctor, this review will help your decision. I don’t regret my choice and only hope your surgery will bring you the confidence and joy mine has!!

Results are as good as some of the most high priced specialists in the city - Although this review is for Botox i need to give you a rundown on why i choose Dr Katzen I have always had an incredible experience with Dr Katzen. I have had a tummy tuck, breast lift, BBL plus both an arm lift and a thigh lift since 2017- and I’m not a massive weight loss patient. He's just that good. He Probably has more experience than anyone else in Los Angeles with these lift procedures This past summer wearing shorts for the first time in 20 years was truly life changing. Freeing. And tank tops without a “light sweater” on top to hide my arms when it’s 100 degrees outside- priceless. I wish i would have seen him sooner- like in my 20s- alas he wasn’t around yet :) . . So kind and patient and talented. Why i never turned to him for Botox and filler is a mystery. In November i got Botox from the very knowledgeable Talia in his office who is good at everything including post surgical care . Her results are as good as some of the most high priced specialists in the city. I’m also ready for my 2nd Mobius 8 session- great results. . He numbs us twice which really is necessary. He will always do what is necessary to keep you looking good and getting there as pain free as possible. . Great Dr. Great office.

I cannot express fully how happy I am with my end results! I am currently almost 7 months since my extended abdominoplasty and lipo. Dr Katzen did such a great job. Initial appointment set up was a bit of a hassle. I almost had to cancel my surgery because I was misinformed of the date agreed upon. In the end my employer worked with me and we handled the new surgery date. Pre surgery process was a little crazy. There is so much to do and so little time. Only wish was the required testing list could have been provided a little earlier so the appointments could have been made smoothly. Surgery day I was so scared and panicking honestly but dr Katzen, the staff and anesthesiologist were amazing and took care of me. When I woke up someone stayed by me every second and I saw dr Katzen shortly after and he told me he took 13 pounds and said I did great. This stuck with me in a good way. I appreciated the care. Post surgery was rough! Keep in mind everyone recovers differently!!!! The tightness in your abdomen is extremely uncomfortable. I felt like I couldn’t breathe and the ride to my after care in the ambulance was painful. If you have the means stay at a facility!!!! It will make your first 3-4 days(the hardest in my opinion) so much more manageable. I was very very sick the first 4 days. The nausea was the biggest challenge for me. After that hurdle the mental game begins. I had two amazing people to care for me 24/7 and I can say it’s a lot on someone. New appreciation for caregivers is a shared opinion amongst us all now. No one could have prepared me for the mental challenge. If you have never had a major surgery please do what you can to prepare for being helpless and finding a way to be okay with it. Once mobility comes back and normalcy starts to trickle in things will get so much better. Realistically I’d say 5 month’s minimum is the milestone i would plan for. I’m now at 7 and still have zero sensation in all of my abdomen. I understand it may be permanent but I’m hopeful. Misc info Lotion is your best friend for lipo areas!!!! Don’t rush removing the tubes. Infection is also possible with wound care. I got a bad staff infection and could see inside my body very deeply and that was traumatic. Lots of antibiotics!!! All in all this was a life changing experience and I’m very happy with my results. My before and after are attached. My sisters wedding before surgery bs my dads weeding 2022.

Update: forgot to mention although I understand bodies aren’t perfect I do wish my belly button wasn’t 100% off set to the right. Also biggest disappointment was my pelvic area does not reflect that it was reduced in size. (No fat removed just lifted) have not seen the surgery of course but before and after to me is not different. I now have a flat stomach and a puff that sticks out at my pelvic line. I hoped it would reduce from swelling but it’s been 7 months.

Who Is a Candidate for Tummy Tuck Surgery?

Abdominoplasty can be performed for both women and men. If you find yourself upset over loose or wrinkly skin, as well as pesky pockets of fat in the tummy section, this body contouring procedure can help produce a tighter and slimmer appearance. Dr. Katzen advises clients considering this surgery to be at a normal weight prior to their appointment. Abdominoplasty is not a substitute for weight loss – it treats loose skin. Liposuction is generally implemented during surgery to remove fat, but these are small amounts. If your stomach area has healthy skin laxity, but you are still unhappy with how your tummy looks and feels even if diet and exercise have failed, you could consider liposuction instead. Women considering this treatment should be past pregnancy to make sure the surgical outcomes are not compromised.

What to Expect During Tummy Tuck Surgery

Abdominoplasty is performed with the patient under general anesthesia. There are numerous surgical options to consider when the surgery is performed by Dr. Katzen, which are determined by the patient's current condition. The type of incision you receive will depend on the amount of excess skin present. Some patients with an abundance of sagging and loose skin may require a full tummy tuck, which places the incision along the lower abdomen from hip to hip, just above the pubic region. Other patients who are concerned with minimal skin wrinkling may be better suited for a less invasive technique, such as a mini tummy tuck. Men and women who receive this treatment still benefit from an abdominoplasty but will simply receive a smaller scar.

About Us

How Long Is Recovery After Tummy Tuck Surgery?

When your abdominoplasty surgery has concluded, you will be monitored and released wearing a compression garment to minimize swelling. Standing upright and walking will be slow-going at first so you must be sure to rest for several days. Standing and moving becomes easier once the abdominal muscles adjust and the incision begins to heal. Most patients can generally resume a normal routine after two weeks. Exercise can resume once you are cleared by Dr. Katzen. You will experience some discomfort and tightness in the treated area, but you will also come out of your surgery feeling healthy and slimmer once you have recovered.

Attain a Tighter Tummy

Many factors can contribute to a stretched-out lower abdomen that creates undesired hanging and wrinkled skin. We know that this can be incredibly challenging to deal with. Tummy tuck surgery is generally the key to overcome these frustrations. If you are bothered by the stretched-out skin in your abdomen, whether it's significant or not, surgical body contouring by Dr. Katzen in Beverly Hills, CA can help you achieve the look you want.

What type of tummy tuck should I get?

There are three main types of tummy tucks: the full, mini, and extended. During your consultation, Dr. Katzen will ask about your needs and goals before examining your stomach. From there, he will be better able to decide which tummy tuck will give you the best results. A full tummy tuck is good if you want to fix issues in the upper and lower abdomen while a mini tummy tuck is good if you only have concerns below your belly button, like a "pooch." An extended tummy tuck is designed to improve the abdomen, as well as the hips and upper thighs.

What will my scars look like?

Incisions for your tummy tuck will depend on which type you are getting. For all tummy tucks, Dr. Katzen makes the thinnest incisions possible to limit scarring. He also makes incisions in less visible areas (in the pubic region or belly button) so they can be concealed by a swimsuit or underwear. After your surgery, it's important to follow your scar care instructions so your sutures heal flat and blend into your natural skin.

Can I get pregnant after a tummy tuck?

While you can get pregnant after a tummy tuck, it will alter your results. Dr. Katzen advises patients considering tummy tuck surgery to be finished with planned pregnancies and childbirth. If you do get pregnant after a tummy tuck, a second surgery can be performed to refresh your results.

Can I get a tummy tuck with another surgery?

Many patients can receive another surgery with a tummy tuck to achieve more dramatic outcomes. During your consultation with Dr. Katzen, talk to him about your concerns so a personalized treatment plan can be developed that matches your goals. You may combine a tummy tuck with a thigh lift for a lower body lift or several areas for overall body contouring. If you are trying to improve your body after pregnancy or losing a significant amount of weight, you may be an ideal candidate for a mommy makeover or after weight loss surgery.
