After Weight Loss Surgery
Women and men alike who undergo significant weight loss are to be commended, having overcome a big obstacle that affects a growing number of men, women, and children alike. Unfortunately, while their weight loss represents a huge accomplishment, some will be faced with an additional roadblock to achieving their dream body. The new challenge usually presents itself in the sagging and loose skin that resides on the body. Significant weight loss commonly leaves patients with skin that cannot conform to the new body frame, especially if a large amount of weight was lost rapidly. Regardless of where the skin laxity resides, plastic surgery is often necessary to fully address the issue. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Timothy Katzen offers after weight loss surgery for Beverly Hills, CA men and women. This can be a life-changing treatment at J. Timothy Katzen, M.D. Beverly Hills and is often the final step in a patient's total weight loss transformation.
After Weight Loss Surgery Reviews
"Experienced Body Dysmorphia after weight loss surgery - After weight loss surgery, I experience a bad case of body dysmorphia. All my excess skin messed with my mind and got me feeling down all the time. I am 45 years old, but my wrinkly skin looked like I was 95. My co-worker went through pretty much the same thing I did and highly recommended Dr. Katzen for skin removal surgery. I had a body lift and medial thigh lift. My next stage this summer will be the arm lift and breast work. So far, I am very happy with what I see. I cannot wait to finish with skin removal this summer so I can feel "complete" and "new"."- J.H. / RealSelf / Jan 18, 2020
"Breast augmentation and lift after weight loss surgery - The first year after weight loss surgery, my weight was dropping at a rapid rate. One of the first things I noticed right away was my deflated saggy breasts. I used to have nice large breasts. Dr. Katzen usually recommends his patients to do the lower body (tummy tuck or body lift) first, but for me, my breasts bothered me the most. I had a breast augmentation with silicone implants along with a breast lift. My surgery was at 7 in the morning, I was in surgery over 3 hours, went home the same day. Pain was not bad at all and I healed just fine. I love how my breasts turned out, better than it has ever looked. Dr. Katzen knows I am coming back to do my lower body lift. See you soon doc!"- A.B. / RealSelf / Apr 18, 2019
"Arm Lift, 40 Year Old Female. Beverly Hills, CA - I had such a wonderful experience with Dr. Katzen and his office staff. It started with a very easy to schedule consult for an arm lift. Dr. Katzen sold me on his demo of how my arms would look post surgery and before and after pictures. He has a great bedside manner and was patient with my many questions. Jane was extremely helpful with fitting in my surgery date within a very short window that I had for availability. The surgery went very well. Please pay attention to Dr. Katzen's recommended recovery times. I returned to work and regular household/kid duties a bit too early. Belinda was also absolutely outstanding with being available to answer my almost daily post op questions. I am so very happy with my decision to have an arm lift 15 years after weight loss surgery and even more happy that I trusted Dr. Katzen to perform the surgery. I am 40 years old and 4 months post op, wearing sleeveless shirts for the first time as an adult. I highly recommend!!!!"- K.C. / RealSelf / Apr 18, 2016
"Body lift after weight loss surgery - I’ve been obese since my teenage years. In my twenties I weighed almost 400 pounds. I had weight loss surgery and lost almost 200 pounds. I was feeling healthy but it left me with massive amounts of excess skin. I went on blogs and websites to find a surgeon that specializes in weight loss patients and found that Dr. Katzen came highly recommended. I made an appointment with him and f..."- C.R. / RealSelf / Apr 18, 2017
After Weight Loss Surgery Ideal Candidates
The ideal candidates for after weight loss surgery are those who have stretched and hanging skin as a result of losing a significant amount of weight. Most often, this issue is visible early on as the body begins to change shape. If you are challenged by loose skin, this complex combination of surgeries performed by Dr. Katzen can eliminate the deformity, then secure the tissue and remaining skin for a healthy, tighter look. It's important for patients to be close to their goal weight before considering skin removal surgery to ensure that they receive their ideal results.
After Weight Loss Surgery Surgical Technique
Surgery to remove loose skin is considered a major cosmetic treatment. These kinds of surgeries are performed with the patient under general anesthesia and can take several hours, depending on the unique combination of procedures that are a part of your surgical plan. An overnight stay in the hospital is usually necessary so your health can be monitored. A form of liposuction is often integrated during surgery to remove excess fatty tissue, which is followed by the surgical removal of skin. Plastic surgery of this nature often does require larger incisions in comparison to other cosmetic surgeries so varying degrees of scarring may occur as a result. During surgery, every attempt is made by Dr. Katzen to create incisions in inconspicuous locations, such as in the natural folds of the body or in areas that are often hidden. Some of the most common after weight loss surgery procedures that patients can receive are:
A typical after weight loss surgery plan can include a full upper body lift (such as an arm lift, upper back lift, or breast lift), a lower body lift (including a tummy tuck, thigh lift, or butt lift), or both, depending on your goals.
What to Expect with After Weight Loss Surgery
Once you're released from our care, it's important to dedicate a week or two to at-home recovery. Tubes may be placed near the incision sites to help control drainage, and medical garments should be worn to minimize swelling. For the average person, it takes roughly 2 – 4 weeks until you can resume low-impact activities. Depending on the surgeries, this could take longer. Dr. Katzen finds that most of his patients are back to normal around 4 – 6 months post-op. Skin removal surgery is life-changing for patients and produces amazing results that are immediately noticeable. Finally, you will be able to feel confident in your body and wear the clothes you want. You'll also be able to partake in activities without pounds of hanging skin keeping you from doing the things you love and enjoy.
