The patient, a 38-year-old 5'3" 130-pound White woman, was obese at first, weighing 205 pounds. After diet and exercise, she was able to lose 75 pounds. She was still unhappy about the extra skin and fat on her back. After much internet research, she decided to get help from Dr. J. Timothy Katzen in Beverly Hills, California. Dr. Katzen examined her back. The patient and Dr. Katzen both agreed that the patient would get folds of skin on their back after just back liposuction. The person chose to have liposuction on their back and a horizontal or brastraplasty torsoplasty. The horizontal torsoplasty took about 4 hours, and the back liposuction took about 1 hour to complete. A general anesthetic was used for both surgeries. There were two drains put in. Dr. Katzen took off 4 pounds of skin and fat from her back. On the ninth day after the surgery, both back drains were taken out. After two weeks of healing from surgery, the patient returned to work sitting down. The person had to wear a compression device for six weeks and have her wounds changed every day for two weeks. She is thrilled with how the backlift turned out. She can now wear clothes that were too small for her before the horizontal torsoplasty and back liposuction treatments. She can wear more form-fitting clothing that shows off her "new" smooth" back. Following her backlift, she feels more confident and doesn't worry about her back rolls any more. Her only regret is that she did not have the backlift sooner.
