Excess lower-body skin after gastric bypass can affect the abdomen, hips, buttocks, lower back, and outer thighs simultaneously. Our patient is a 37-year-old Hispanic female who had previously been morbidly obese and reached a highest weight of 320 pounds. Through diet, exercise, and RNY gastric bypass, she reduced her weight to 218 pounds, but she still had loose hanging skin that bothered her daily. She underwent a circumferential lower body lift, also called a CBL, with Dr. Katzen under general anesthesia. During this 360 body lift, Dr. Katzen removed excess skin and tissue from around the entire lower torso to improve the body from the front, sides, and back. A circumferential lower-body lift after weight loss differs from a standard tummy tuck because it addresses the abdomen, waist, hips, lower back, buttocks, and outer thighs. This helps reduce skin laxity, improve lower body shape, and create a smoother contour after massive weight loss. Her photos were taken 5 months after surgery, and she achieved remarkable results. Our patient’s lower body looks more lifted, refined, and proportionate after surgery. This transformation shows why post-bariatric body contouring is often needed after major weight loss, even after diet, exercise, and gastric bypass. For patients bothered by excess skin after obesity, a CBL can help remove the remaining skin and complete the next stage of their transformation.

Losing more than 100 pounds is a major accomplishment, but the extra skin left behind can make the body feel heavy, uncomfortable, and unfinished. Our patient is a 37-year-old Hispanic female who had previously been morbidly obese, with a highest weight of 320 pounds. After diet, exercise, and RNY gastric bypass, she reduced her weight to 218 pounds but remained bothered by excess skin hanging from her lower body. Dr. Katzen performed a circumferential lower body lift, also known as a CBL, while she was under general anesthesia. During this 360-degree lower-body lift, Dr. Katzen removed loose skin and extra tissue from around the abdomen, hips, lower back, buttocks, and outer thighs. This post-weight-loss body contouring procedure is designed to treat loose skin that wraps around the body, not just the stomach. By removing excess skin circumferentially, a CBL can help smooth the abdomen, improve the waistline, lift the buttocks, reduce lower back rolls, and create a more balanced lower-body contour. Her photos were taken 5 months after surgery, and she achieved remarkable results. Our patient’s body appears smoother, tighter, and more proportional after her weight loss transformation. This case highlights how circumferential lower-body lift surgery can help patients after gastric bypass, diet, and exercise, even when loose skin remains despite significant progress. A CBL can be an important step in helping the body more accurately reflect the weight-loss journey.
