This case features a Hispanic woman in her 40s who came to Dr. Katzen concerned about the loose, hanging skin on her upper arms that remained after weight changes and aging. She felt her arms looked heavier than the rest of her body, and that the extra tissue moved separately from the underlying muscle. After consultation and examination, Dr. Katzen recommended brachioplasty, also known as arm lift surgery, to remove excess skin, reduce stubborn fat, and reshape the upper arms as part of targeted body contouring. In the operating room, she was placed under general anesthesia. Dr. Katzen marked the pattern of skin redundancy along the inner aspect of the upper arms, extending from the armpit toward the elbow. By making a careful incision along these markings, he elevated the skin and fat from the deeper structures, exposing the lax tissue. He then removed the excess skin and selectively thinned and contoured the fat layer to restore a smoother, more tapered arm profile. Once the desired contour was achieved, the remaining skin was advanced and tightened over the reshaped framework. Deep internal sutures were placed to support the new arm shape, and the outer incision was closed in multiple layers to promote healing. As swelling resolved over the following weeks, her upper arms appeared firmer, more defined, and better balanced with her figure. She was very happy with her brachioplasty results and the natural improvement in her upper arm contour.

Arm Lift for Toned Contours

This brachioplasty case features a Hispanic woman in her 40s who sought Dr. Katzen for excess upper-arm skin and fullness that persisted despite diet and exercise.  After a focused exam and discussion of goals, Dr. Katzen recommended an arm lift surgery to remove redundant skin, refine fat deposits, and restore a smoother, more tapered upper-arm contour as part of comprehensive body contouring.  On the day of surgery, the patient was placed under general anesthesia.  Precise markings outlined the lax tissue along the inner arm from the axilla toward the elbow.  Through a carefully planned incision in this zone, the skin and subcutaneous fat were elevated off the underlying fascia to expose areas of true redundancy.  Selective lipocontouring was performed where appropriate to blend the arm with the deltoid and triceps borders.  The excess dermal-fat strip was excised, the superficial fascial system was tightened with deep, supportive sutures, and the skin was redraped to achieve a firm, natural slope from shoulder to elbow.  Hemostasis was secured, drains were used only if indicated, and the incision was closed in layered fashion with fine, absorbable sutures to support healing and optimize the arm lift result.  Postoperatively, she followed a structured recovery plan emphasizing arm elevation, limited early motion, and scar care.  As swelling resolved, the arm contour appeared slimmer and more defined, with improved symmetry and muscle definition.  The patient was very happy with her brachioplasty outcome and felt the procedure delivered the upper-arm rejuvenation she wanted from a board-certified Beverly Hills plastic surgeon experienced in upper arm skin removal and post-weight-loss body contouring.
