This is a 43-year-old Hispanic patient who is 5’5 and currently weighs 230 pounds. Her maximum weight was 280 pounds and with diet and exercise, she was able to lose a maximum of 80 pounds. With that weight loss came excess skin and fat. The main area of concern for this patient was her arms. Dr. Katzen performed a brachioplasty or arm lift and reduction. He does this under general anesthesia and usually pairs it with liposuction to get optimal results. The surgery lasted for three hours and Dr. Katzen removed 6 pounds of fat with liposuction and 1 pound of skin. This patient now has proportionate arms for her body. The incision hides within the inseam of a shirt, making it easier to conceal. The scar is most visible when the arms are up. Dr. Katzen performs his brachioplasties using a drainless technique. Typically, one can return to a sitting job in 2 to 3 weeks and an active job in 3 to 4 weeks. One can be expected to return to limited activity in 2 to 3 weeks and full activity in 4 to 6 weeks after the surgery. This surgery usually takes between 3 to 4 hours to complete. This patient feels confident and is looking forward to showing off her new arms.
