Our patient is a Black female in her 20s who achieved significant weight loss, reaching 180 lbs from a highest weight of 270 lbs, yet continued to struggle with loose, excess skin along her thighs. Despite maintaining her weight loss, the skin laxity caused discomfort, chafing, and frustration with clothing fit, concerns that cannot be corrected with diet or exercise alone. She elected to undergo a thigh lift, also known as thighplasty, to address excess skin and improve the overall contour of her legs. Under general anesthesia, Dr. Timothy Katzen carefully evaluated the pattern of skin laxity and designed a surgical plan focused on removing redundant skin while creating a smoother, more balanced thigh shape. During the procedure, excess skin was excised and the underlying tissue was tightened to provide better support and longer lasting results, with incision placement planned to be as discreet as possible. Thighplasty is a body contouring procedure commonly performed after major weight loss and is intended to improve both appearance and physical comfort. Recovery involves swelling and the use of compression garments to support healing, along with gradual return to normal activity as directed. These photos were taken 2 years and 8 months after surgery and demonstrate remarkable, stable results with improved thigh definition, reduced skin laxity, and a more confident silhouette.

Our patient, a Black female in her 20s, had already accomplished major weight loss, going from 270 lbs at her highest to 180 lbs at the time of surgery, but the excess skin on her thighs still made her feel self-conscious and uncomfortable. This is a common concern after bariatric or significant lifestyle weight loss because the skin stretches for years and may not recover its snap. Dr. Timothy Katzen performed a thigh lift (thighplasty) under general anesthesia to remove the loose skin and create a smoother, more youthful leg contour. During thighplasty, the plan is tailored to the pattern of laxity: Dr. Katzen marks the skin before surgery, then removes the extra tissue and tightens the underlying support so the remaining skin lies flatter. Incisions are strategically placed to be as concealable as possible, often beginning in the groin crease and extending along the inner thigh for more extensive excess skin removal. The procedure is intended to improve shape, reduce rubbing and irritation, and help clothing fit more predictably. Recovery typically includes a compression garment, swelling management, and a gradual return to normal activity as the incisions heal. These photos were taken 2 years and 8 months later, showing remarkable, stable results. If you are considering a thigh lift, schedule a consultation with Dr. Katzen to discuss candidacy, scar placement, and a plan built around your goals.
