After losing 100 lbs, our patient wanted the back of her body to reflect the same progress she saw on the scale. Our patient is a 61-year-old White female who had previously been morbidly obese and reached a highest weight of 265 lbs. Her weight-loss journey included dieting, exercise, RNY gastric bypass, and GLP-1 medications, helping her reach her lowest weight of 165 lbs. Even after this transformation, loose skin remained across her upper torso, back, and sides. This hanging skin could not be tightened with workouts, so she came to Dr. Katzen for a customized full-body transformation plan. Dr. Katzen performed a torsoplasty, also known as a back lift, with vertical incisions on both sides of the body while she was under general anesthesia. During the procedure, he removed excess skin and tissue from the upper back and side torso, then tightened the remaining skin to create a smoother contour. The vertical incision approach allows direct treatment of loose skin along the sides after massive weight loss. A back lift after weight loss can reduce back rolls, improve the side profile, and create a more proportional upper-body shape. Photos were taken 3 months after surgery, and our patient achieved remarkable results. This case highlights how post-weight-loss torsoplasty can remove skin that does not shrink naturally and help complete a full-body transformation after obesity, bariatric surgery, GLP-1-assisted weight loss, diet, and exercise.

A full-body transformation after weight loss often requires treating the body from multiple angles, including the back. Our patient is a 61-year-old White female who had previously been morbidly obese, with a highest weight of 265 lbs. Through dieting, exercise, RNY gastric bypass, and GLP-1 medications, she eventually reached her lowest weight of 165 lbs. After this tremendous weight-loss journey, she was left with loose skin on her upper torso, making her back and sides look heavier than her new body size. She came to Dr. Katzen for post-weight-loss skin removal and body contouring. Dr. Katzen performed a torsoplasty, also known as a back lift, using vertical incisions on both sides of the body while she was under general anesthesia. During the procedure, loose skin and excess tissue were removed from the upper torso and sides, allowing the remaining skin to be tightened for a smoother back contour. This vertical back lift technique is designed for patients with significant skin laxity after obesity, bariatric surgery, GLP-1-assisted weight loss, diet, and exercise. It can help improve back rolls, side folds, and the overall shape of the torso. Photos were taken 3 months after surgery, and our patient achieved remarkable results. This case shows how torsoplasty surgery can support a comprehensive body-transformation plan by addressing upper-body skin that does not shrink naturally after weight loss and creating a more proportional silhouette.
