Our patient is a 24-year-old Hispanic male who weighed 134 lbs at the time of surgery. He came to Dr. Timothy Katzen after a successful weight loss journey through diet and exercise. Even though he achieved a leaner body, he was still bothered by excess abdominal skin that would not tighten on its own, often making the stomach look less defined and affecting how clothing fit. Dr. Katzen recommended a tummy tuck, also called an abdominoplasty, to remove the loose skin and create a smoother, flatter midsection while preserving a natural, athletic contour. Under general anesthesia, Dr. Katzen began with careful pre-operative markings to plan an incision that would sit low and be easier to conceal under underwear or swimwear. A tummy tuck is not just “cutting off skin” because the goal is to reshape the entire abdominal area in a balanced way. After the incision was made, Dr. Katzen removed the excess skin and fatty tissue that had remained after weight loss, focusing on eliminating the lower abdominal overhang and improving the overall abdominal outline. When appropriate, the abdominal wall was evaluated for muscle separation, since some patients can have laxity or weakness that contributes to a protruding appearance even at a low body weight. If tightening is needed, the rectus muscles can be brought back together to reinforce the core and help the abdomen sit flatter. A key part of abdominoplasty is contour refinement so the stomach does not look tight in one area and loose in another. Dr. Katzen ensured the abdominal skin was re-draped smoothly and evenly, then created a natural-looking belly button position when needed so it matches the new abdominal shape. The incision was closed in multiple layers to support a strong repair and improve scar quality, and drains may be used temporarily to reduce fluid buildup as swelling settles. Postoperative care typically includes a compression garment, early walking to support circulation, and clear guidance on activity limits to protect the repair and help the final contour develop. These photos were taken three months after surgery, and our patient achieved remarkable results with a flatter, smoother abdomen, improved skin tightness, and a more confident silhouette that reflects the hard work he put into his weight loss. As healing continues beyond the three-month mark, the scar and contour often keep refining, with further softening and settling over time.

Our patient is a 24-year-old Hispanic male who weighed 134 lbs at the time of surgery. He felt frustrated by excess abdominal skin after weight loss achieved through diet and exercise. Dr. Timothy Katzen recommended a tummy tuck, also known as abdominoplasty, to remove excess skin and create a flatter, firmer abdomen. Under general anesthesia, Dr. Katzen designed a low incision intended to sit beneath underwear lines whenever possible, then carefully removed the stretched skin that was hanging and wrinkling across the lower abdomen. When needed, he tightened the abdominal wall by bringing the separated or weakened muscles back toward the center to improve core support and reduce forward bulging. The remaining skin was recontoured to achieve a smoother surface, and the navel was repositioned to achieve a natural appearance that matches the new shape. Internal layered sutures were used to support the closure and help scars heal cleanly, and drains and compression are often used short-term to control swelling and fluid. These photos were taken 3 months after surgery, and his results are already remarkable, showing a more defined waistline, reduced lower-abdominal laxity, and a tighter, athletic silhouette that should continue to refine as swelling subsides. He was guided on drain care and scar management, and a gradual return to workouts so the incision and muscle repair stay protected, since swelling and firmness can continue improving for several more months.
