Skin that lingers on the outer hips after major weight loss can hide the hard work someone has already done. Our patient is a 66-year-old White female who was previously obese and reached 141 lbs at the time of surgery, yet still had prominent “saddlebags” and loose tissue along the hip and upper outer thigh. Dr. J. Timothy Katzen performed a hip lift with wedge saddlebag removal to reduce that outer-thigh fullness and tighten the skin where it tends to droop. Under general anesthesia, the excess skin and lax tissue were carefully measured, then removed in a wedge-shaped pattern designed to lift the outer thigh upward and smooth the curve from the waist into the hip. By tightening the deeper support layer and re-draping the skin, this body contouring procedure can improve clothing fit, reduce rubbing, and create a cleaner outer-thigh silhouette without relying on liposuction alone. A total of 5 lbs of excess skin was removed, and the incision placement was planned to keep scars as discreet as possible while still delivering a meaningful lift. Early swelling is expected, so results become clearer as healing progresses and tissues soften. These photos were taken 6 months after surgery, showing a remarkable improvement in hip contour, outer thigh tightening, and overall proportion. For many post weight loss patients, hip lift surgery and saddlebag excision are the final steps to address skin that diet and exercise cannot correct, restoring comfort and confidence during everyday movement. Recovery typically includes compression, gentle walking, and gradual return to activity.

After significant weight loss, the hips and outer thighs may develop “saddlebags” of loose skin that do not tighten on their own. Our patient is a 66-year-old White female who was previously obese and reached 141 lbs at the time of surgery, yet still had excess skin and lax tissue along the hips and upper outer thighs that affected comfort and clothing fit. Dr. J. Timothy Katzen performed a hip lift with wedge saddlebag removal under general anesthesia, using careful preoperative markings to remove a wedge of redundant skin and tighten the deeper support layer for more durable outer thigh contouring. The incision is planned along natural lines where it can be better concealed by underwear or swimwear, and the closure is layered to reduce tension and support smooth healing. A total of 5 lbs of excess skin was removed, and the remaining tissue was lifted and secured to smooth the transition from the hip to the thigh while preserving natural shape and symmetry. This post-weight-loss body-contouring approach is designed to reduce friction, improve proportion, and create a sleeker silhouette without relying on overly complex terminology. These photos were taken 6 months after surgery, when swelling had largely settled and scars had begun to mature, revealing remarkable results and a more streamlined hip and thigh profile. Most patients wear compression, focus on short frequent walks, and avoid heavy lifting early so the outer thigh lift results can settle safely.
