She had bilateral breast cancer. This required bilateral complete mastectomy, chemotherapy, and radiation. She requested bilateral breast reconstruction. She required bilateral breast implants and a TRAM flap. A TRAM flap is transverse rectus abdominis myocutaneous flap. Skin, fat, and a small strip of the rectus muscle were flipped and used to reconstruct the breasts. The patient also had repair of abdominal wall hernia and a tummy tuck. The skin that you see on the breast is from the abdomen. At a later date, she has nipples tattooed.
