Brazilian Butt Lift: What You Need to Know
4/22/2020
Fuller butt accented by a thin waist, is a trend that continues to rise in popularity. While many people are blessed with enviable curves on their derriere, others need extra help to achieve a bodacious backside.
While hundreds of hours at the gym doing butt workouts might help you, surgical intervention will get you the perfect backside within a few hours. Brazilian butt lift is one of the most in-demand procedures of sculpting your dream buttock. A Brazilian Buttock lift is a way of augmenting your butt or improving the shape of your backsides by using your own fat.
Let’s take a look at the steps of Brazilian butt lift to understand how the process works.

HOW IS A BRAZILIAN BUTT LIFT DONE?
Brazilian butt lift, also known as a gluteoplasty, uses liposuction to remove fat from one area and transfer it to your buttocks.
First, the designated area of fat removal is marked, second, anesthesia is administered to numb the patient. Once the area is marked, incisions are made for injecting fat into your buttocks. Third, a tumescent fluid is injected to help in fat removal and control the bleeding.
Fourth, fat is removed from your abdomen, love handles, back, thigh and flanks with a cannula. From the collected fat is then processed and washed with two antibiotics. Sixth, the collected cleansed fat is injected into the buttock fat, not the buttock muscle. Injection of fat into the buttock muscle is not performed any more due to the high risk of fatal fat and blood clots. The final result is a voluptuous Brazilian Butt.
WHAT TO EXPECT?
Expect a curvy, bodacious, and contoured buttock after the surgery. However, you will be able to fully appreciate that derriere a week or two after your surgery.
Bruising, aching, and swelling are all normal, and you might experience them for some time. You might also lose sensations in the operated area. But as your nerves gradually heal, your sensations will return too.
The healing process varies from individual to individual. Mostly, treated individuals resume walking one or two days after surgery. As your newly implanted fat becomes revascularized, you should avoid sitting on your butt for three weeks. For the first few weeks, limit your physical and other regular activities.

HOW TO PREPARE?
Pre-Surgery Preparation
Make sure that you tell Dr. Katzen about your medical history. Discuss every medication, vitamin, supplement or herb that you take and every condition with Dr. Katzen (even those that you think aren’t important). Here Dr. Katzen has elaborated the general pre-surgery preparatory measures that you need to consider:
- If you smoke, then quit smoking at least one month before your surgery. This includes consumption of nicotine in any form, (gums, patches, etc) as nicotine hinders the circulation and impairs healing. You will have to refrain from smoking for one month after the surgery.
- You will be asked to stop taking some medication. These include aspirins and ibuprofen. These medications cause blood-thinning, resulting in increased bleeding and bruising.
- Plan to give up drinking alcohol two weeks prior to your scheduled procedure. Instead, consume plenty of water and keep yourself hydrated. Also, you will be asked to stop drinking alcohol for one week after the surgery.
Post-Surgery Preparation
- As your movements and activities are limited, you are going to need someone to take care of you after the surgery. Ask a family member or a friend, or you may arrange a nurse for a few days.
- Have plenty of comfy blankets and pillows around you. Keep some extra towels nearby for dealing with potential drainage.
- Ensure that your prescribed medications stay within your reach.
WHAT ABOUT THE RECOVERY PROCESS?
Expect mild to moderate pain and tenderness in the operated area in the first two days after the surgery. Refrain from sitting, sleeping, or putting any pressure on your backside for two to three weeks following the surgery.
Usually, pain and swelling reduce after one week, and most patients can resume minor physical activities. Typically, the pain subsides after the second week. At the third week, patients are allowed to sit and sleep on their backside. Bruising and swelling take time to decrease. However, most surgeons recommend complete resumption of normal activities by the fifth or sixth week following the BBL surgery.
