Have you taken a look in the mirror and are dissatisfied with how your chin looks? Have no fear, Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Dr. Timothy Katzen is here.
Some female and male patients are not happy with how their chin looks. They feel like it may be disfigured or that there is not enough chin to supplement their face. Whatever their reason, there are options available. A chin implant is a surgical procedure in which a silicone implant is inserted underneath the chin to add extra volume and definition to a receding chin. The procedure is a great way for men and women to add a striking element in their appearance and a defined facial balance. A chin implant will supplement your eyes, nose, mouth and cheeks. Take a look at this infogram below to get the quick facts about a chin implant procedure. During the consultation, Dr. Katzen will discuss with you every option available for a successful chin implant. To be a good candidate, you must be in good health, must have a jaw, teeth, and a good immune system. Surgery Time Once you are cleared for surgery by your physician, it is time to schedule the surgery. Chin implant surgery should only take about an hour and you should be able to go home after the anesthesia wears off. The day of your surgery, the anesthesiologist will administer general anesthesia and take you into the operation room. Dr. Katzen will then inject lidoacaine in and around the chin to minimize pain and swelling. About 15 to 20 minutes later, after the lidocaine kicks in, Dr. Katzen will make a small incision underneath the chin. The incision is underneath the chin to hide the small incision. After Dr. Katzen dissects the chin, he then inserts a sterile silicone implant. Then, Dr. Katzen checks the symmetry of the chin and will adjust the implant if needed. Once the implant is in, Dr. Katzen will suture the small incision. Recovery Recovery time depends on the patient. Some patients heal faster than others and other patients heal slower. Recovery for a chin implant should take three to five days after surgery. You will be swollen for about four to six weeks. Medication will be given to you to alleviate any pain or discomfort.
