Getting Results with Breast Surgery

There are several different types of breast surgery procedures. In breast augmentation, Dr. Katzen makes the breasts larger, while breast reduction makes the breasts smaller. A breast lift is done to elevate sagging or drooping breasts and give them a perkier and more youthful appearance. Breast reconstruction describes a group of procedures done to help patients who had mastectomies, typically for breast cancer. During breast reconstruction, Dr. Katzen rebuilds the patient's breast or breasts to give them a more normal appearance. Breast revision procedures are done to help patients who have suffered complications caused by an earlier operation or who want new implants. While the vast majority of patients are women, men do undergo breast surgery. Most men who undergo breast surgery have a condition called gynecomastia. Gynecomastia is a condition where a boy or man has abnormally large and feminine-looking breasts. What Does a Breast Lift Involve? A breast lift or mastopexy is an outpatient procedure. There are several different methods of performing a breast lift. There is the crescent lift, periareolar lift, doughnut mastopexy, lollipop lift, anchor lift, and inverted T breast lift to name just a few. Dr. Katzen will help choose the best procedure for you, based on the size of your breasts and how much your breasts are drooping. Depending on the situation, Dr. Katzen may combine a breast lift with breast augmentation. To reshape the breasts and to reduce breast sagging during a breast lift or mastopexy, Dr. Katzen can add implants or remove tissue. What Kinds of Implants are Available? The patient can choose from many different types of breast implants. There are saline implants, silicone implants, round implants, anatomic implants, smooth implants, textured implants, and many others. Nearly two-thirds of American patients prefer silicone implants because they are said to look and feel more natural than saline implants. They are also less likely to develop textural changes. On the other hand, the body can safely absorb the saline from a ruptured or deflated saline implant. Dr. Katzen can help you determine which breast implant is best for you. What Does Breast Reconstruction Surgery Involve? With breast reconstruction surgery, Dr. Katzen is working to replace a breast or part of the breast. There are different possible methods. In combination procedures, which are the most common, Dr. Katzen will use various techniques to construct a replacement for the patient's breast. This includes using your skin, fat, and muscle from the abdomen or back. This can be performed by itself or in combination with a tissue expander or permanent implant. Each patient is treated individually. Contact Dr. Katzen today to book an appointment and get started!
