Look Years Younger with a Facelift
12/5/2016
A facelift is a surgical procedure that can remove excess and sagging skin, lift and tighten the facial tissues and smooth deep folds and wrinkles. The purpose of a facelift is to provide patients with a more youthful appearance that is natural looking. In short, it allows patients to feel better about themselves.
What to Expect
Different patients have different facial features. Various approaches can be taken when it comes to facelift surgery. Due to genetics, the amount of sun damage, and other factors, aging affects faces differently. The type of facelift you need will be based on your particular needs. Some procedures are more invasive or complicated than others; it all depends on your unique needs. A typical procedure addresses advanced signs of aging, such as deep wrinkles, sagging skin, crepey skin, and furrows. Excess facial skin is removed, and the remaining skin is pulled taut to smooth creases and eliminate jowling. Each facelift will be tailored to the individual. Usually, the procedure is performed under general anesthesia. Sometimes it can be performed under IV sedation; this is also called twilight anesthesia. Depending on what needs to be accomplished, the procedure takes approximately 3 to 5 hours to complete.
The Facelift Recovery
Your recovery time will vary based on your specific procedure and your body’s ability to heal. You can expect to be off work and away from regular activities for about two weeks. You will have some bruising and swelling for several days. Strenuous exercise or other types of physical exertion will need to wait. It is important to follow Dr. Katzen's instructions regarding post-operative care closely.
