Am I a Good Candidate for PRP Treatment?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment involves the use of the patient’s own blood. It is placed into a centrifuge machine. This separates the red and white blood cells from the platelets and plasma. The platelet-rich plasma that is obtained as a result is then deposited into the body in the areas where the treatment is needed.
PRP treatment involves little risk. This is because nothing is being injected into the patient’s body that was not already there. This virtually eliminates the potential of an adverse reaction. Instead, what is used is a solution that is rich in platelets and plasma. If you have fine lines and wrinkles that have started to develop on your face, neck or décolletage, you may be a good candidate for PRP treatment at our office. What happens with age that leads to the formation of lines and wrinkles is a reduction in the amount of collagen that is present in the skin. Collagen is a protein that is naturally produced by the body in order to hold tissue together. The lower layers of the skin contain it, and it gives the skin fullness and, consequently, tightness. As you start to age, your body’s production of the protein slows. The natural effect of this is skin that is not as tight and full. Instead, it becomes loose and begins to sag.
This leads to lines and wrinkles. Lines and wrinkles can be eliminated surgically with facelift and neck lift procedures. However, some people want or need to stay away from surgical procedures. For those who are unable to have surgery to achieve a wrinkle-free appearance, other options are available, one of the best being PRP treatment with the Dermapen®. Rather than physically pulling the skin tight through surgery, PRP treatment takes a different approach. It, in effect, lets the body tighten its own skin. Since a drop in collagen levels can cause the wrinkles, increasing the levels of the substance will make them go away. What results is an appearance that is close to what it was before the collagen production started to decrease. PRP treatment works by helping to stimulate collagen growth. You may also benefit from PRP treatment via the Dermapen® if you have acne scarring on your face. Just as the fullness is returned to the face in order to eliminate the wrinkles, some of the pits that are caused by the scars can be filled in as well. This will restore the skin to a more even texture.
