What Is BOTOX?

To diminish the telltale signs of aging and prevent lines, wrinkles, and folds of skin from forming on the forehead and upper face, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Timothy Katzen is proud to offer BOTOX to his Beverly Hills, CA patients. This nonsurgical facial rejuvenation treatment produces amazing results and is equally popular among both men and women. BOTOX can make a dramatic improvement to the look of wrinkles, which form as the result of facial expressions and muscle movement. Although BOTOX does prevent the forehead muscles from contracting and creating wrinkles, static wrinkles will remain. The formula is a purified strain of botulinum toxin (type A) that temporarily blocks the movements of the underlying tissue and muscle. To ease the appearance of these lines and wrinkles, BOTOX is injected to relax and soften the skin. This specific injection is most commonly placed by Dr. Katzen between the brows where the number "11" appears, on the Crow's feet, and throughout the forehead.

Am I an Ideal Candidate for BOTOX?

BOTOX is used for individuals who hope to diminish and soften the appearance of wrinkles, lines, and moderate folds on their face with nonsurgical methods. This injectable also serves as a preventive treatment for younger patients who have yet to develop static wrinkles. BOTOX is an effective, minimally invasive solution for those who have obvious forehead lines, frown lines between the brows, and for Crow's feet around the eyes. If you have deeper lines, a combination of BOTOX and a filler may be a better option. For those who are older with more severe wrinkles and skin laxity, you may qualify for a facelift. A facelift will produce a more dramatic result, and the results are meant to last years. J. Timothy Katzen, M.D. Beverly Hills offers various facelifts, blepharoplasties, and brow lifts as great options for patients seeking facial rejuvenation.

How Does BOTOX Work?

BOTOX injectable treatments are done as an outpatient procedure here in our Beverly Hills, CA office. If it's your first time to visit us for BOTOX, we typically administer the injection right after your consultation. You will be asked to make various facial expressions that engage the forehead muscles, such as squinting, frowning, etc., which will allow us to mark where the injections should be placed. The skin will be cleansed and BOTOX will be injected under the skin using a fine needle, followed by a cold compress to help decrease discomfort, swelling, and bruising. You can request a numbing cream to make the procedure more comfortable, but this is generally not needed. BOTOX injections take about 10 – 15 minutes to complete, after which you can return to your normal activities.

What Results Can I Expect From BOTOX?

After your BOTOX session, you will be allowed to return to your normal routines. However, strenuous activities, like exercise, should be ceased for at least a day. You will be asked to sleep with your head propped up for the first night after your treatment. You also should not touch your face as this could spread the product to other areas. The treated areas of the face may appear bruised, red, or swollen for a couple of days, but you will not have any severe or lasting side effects. In the majority of cases, it takes about 5 – 7 days before the full effects of BOTOX become visible. The results generally last 3 – 4 months. You should speak to your injector about how often to schedule touch-up appointments at J. Timothy Katzen, M.D. Beverly Hills to refresh your results.
